2011 Summer Tour

Team D.E.O. Speedwaggin’ is now out on a Summer 2011 North American Tour!  We’ll be hitting cities across the U.S. and Canada from June through November.  Stops will include Flyball Tournaments, Agility Trials, Disc Dog Competitions, and Entertainment shows.  One Sprinter van loaded with up to nine dogs and their three roadies…we are looking forward to packed summer of fun!

Team Dogs

All nine dogs headed out for the summer tourUp to nine dogs traveling across North America…bringing along their three roadies for a summer to remember!

  • The two older Great Danes, Morgan (12) and K8 (7) will be along portions of the trip, however they’re hanging out with her Grandma in Colorado while the rest of us head to Alaska and Calgary.  Morgan is a NAFA Flyball Hall of Famer, and the highest titled Dane in AKC, NADAC and USDAA Agility…she’s happily retired.  K8 still occasionally competes in Agility but really enjoys laying in the sun.
  • Youngster Great Dane, Mega (1) is not quite ready for competitions yet, but is starting performing in Entertainment shows already.  She’s a hit with the kids!
  • The two rescued Pit Bulls, Junie (turns 4 in a couple days!) and Bootzilla (1), are just starting out in Agility and Flyball.  Bootzilla is also starting to show some major talent in Frisbee competitions.
  • Belgian Malinois, Power (4), is a rockstar in Frisbee and Flyball…’nuff said!
  • Border Collie, Arrow (6), and BC x Rat Terrier mix, Kaya (7), are all-around professionals who are ready to perform anything, any time, any where.  Well unless there’s a Frisbee in view and you’re asking them to sit and stay…forget about it.
  • Guest teammember, Envy (7), a mix, is joining us for the summer as a much needed height dog at the Flyball tournaments.
  • Keri, Ethan, and Steven are sharing the duties of Driver, Chef, Maid, and Personal Assistants to the dogs.

We can’t say enough good things about Sprinter vans!!!  Well except when ours had an engine “issue” where it would shut down when going up hill and then would not start up again for an hour.  But after at least 5 mechanics and several thousand dollars, we got the problem fixed and now the van rocks!

It has gone through a few different interior re-models, and the most recent includes a back seat and desk so that I can blog on the road (I’m sitting in it now).  But through all the remodels, the Sprinter still retains it’s “original” black and white checkered floor and Hawaiian Hula Girl bobble on the dash board.

We are hoping to get an A/C unit installed before the Texas leg…the back of the van gets pretty hot in the Texas Heat!  This van was a cargo van conversion, however the passenger Sprinter vans have the rear air and heat already installed…at a pretty hefty additional cost however!  Other additions that this sweet rig has is an awning, custom windows that open, roof vent/fan, swivel seats, and solar panels to run the DVD player…we got an amazing deal via Craigslist!

Five Legs of the Tour!

  • Part I – June – Utah & Colorado
The madness begins with a short trip to Utah for a U-FLI Flyball Tournament and then to Denver for the RUFF In The Rockies Flyball Tournament at the beginning of June.
  • Part II – June-July – Alaska & Calgary, Canada
We head to Alaska for Flyball, then down to Seattle for the 4th of July, then over to Calgary, Alberta, Canada for the Superdogs shows at the Calgary Stampede.
  • Part III – July-August – Wyoming, Colorado, California
Flyball in Laramie at the end of July, Scottish Festival Flyball in Denver, UFO Major Frisbee in Denver and looking to pack in some other events meandering across the western US through August.
  • Part IV – September – British Columbia
Another trip back up to Canada, eh!  Looking forward to the Superdogs shows at the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver.
  • Part V – October – Texas, Indiana, Arizona
Loving returning to the Texas State Fair JUMP! Shows again for the third year in a row, NAFA Can/Am Flyball Championships in Indianapolis for the third year in a row, and the Great Dane Nationals in Phoenix for the eleventh time in twelve years!

And for the next 6 months we’ll have time to figure out what we’re going to be doing when we are all return to reality in November.  But for now…we’re having the summer of a lifetime!
