Mega
An exuberant goof-ball one year old Harlequin Great Dane, Mega was a star performer in her very first SuperDogs show at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado in January 2011. She is adorable, funny, and loves to go bonkers. Mega is still in training for Agility, Frisbee and Flyball racing, and it looks like her personality will really shine the brightest in the SuperDogs entertainment shows!
Mega got off to a rough start when her rear leg was broken at just a week old. At 2 months old, the vets predicted that the fracture had damaged her growth plate and her leg would not grow to full length, it might eventually need to be amputated. Her progress was then monitored every couple months by Orthopedic Specialist Dr. Ross Palmer at CSU veterinary hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado. By the time she turned 1 year old we were celebrating the fact that her broken leg was only 1 ½ inches shorter than the other leg. After analyzing her gait and structure with some really amazing 3D analysis “gait lab” equipment at CSU, Dr. Palmer determined that an elevated boot would help keep her hips even and lessen the chances of lower back problems as she ages. Mega now wears her boot around the house in daily life, but gets to run “barefoot” when we’re competing or training.
Mega is from Rocky Danes in Southern Colorado – her mom, Tango, was a grand-niece to Morgan. Mega’s sister, Ziva, is also training for Agility and Flyball with the Omaha 4-Play Flyball team in Nebraska. We are really looking forward to racing with both Great Dane sisters in Flyball, and competing at the AKC Agility Invitational Championships with two of the top Great Danes in agility someday
