Superdogs

Super Dogs team from CanadaThe Superdogs are the oldest and biggest dog entertainment group in the world, based in Canada. Their shows include a broad range of breeds doing Agility, Puissance Jumping, Barrel Racing Weave Pole racing and other creative and kid-oriented tricks. The crowd favorites are “Pot Roast,” an English Bulldog who has a great comedy act, or “Leap” the Ibizan Hound who is the highest jumping dog in the world.  Founded over 35 years ago by Herb Williams, the Superdogs are staples at the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) and PNE (Pacific National Exhibition) Fairs in Canada, and have entertained annually at the National Western Stockshow in Denver since 2005.

Superdogs team California 2009Morgan the Great Dane was a “star” Superdog when she joined the team in 2006 in Denver.  Morgan has also performed at the CNE in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and twice at the Pet Expos in Southern California, however she is now retired from the Superdogs team. Other D.E.O. Speedwaggin’ dogs who have performed with the Superdogs are Kaya, Arrow, Power, Mega, K8, Tango, Hilo, Kona, Dottie, Baylie, Z, Maple (from Japan), Cor, and of course the two famous Lady Gaga video Great Danes – Lava and Rumpus.

The Superdogs performances are always made up of individuals and their own personal best friend dogs – these are not “professionally” trained dogs but rather well trained pet dogs, who are often rescued from shelters.  This aspect makes the shows especially fun to see because of all of the different breeds and different personalities.  The Superdogs even have a movie made about them, called Daniel and The Superdogs, which features a boy who trained his own dog to become a part of the team.  And they have their own TV commercial and pop song, Go Superdogs!
